50+ Summer Bucket List Ideas For You To Use!

50+ Summer Bucket List IdeasI have been working on this post for a few days – doing up the pictures and free summer bucket list printables for you to use.  I realized a few days ago that summer holidays are FAST approaching, and last year the girls and I made up a list of things we wanted to do before summer was over.  It was great fun and we did manage to get most of the things checked off!

We didn’t do anything really fancy.  We just sat down together and came up with a list of things we wanted to do, and then I got them to write half each of them onto recipe cards.  They even drew some pictures on some of them to go with the item.  Then, we just took them with us everywhere, even when we went camping.  That way, if there was something we did while camping, or needed an idea of something to do, we had our pile of cards.

This year I wanted to make it a little bit more “fancy” and maybe a bit more lightweight and easy to take with us.  (The recipe cards were just done up with an elastic band and weren’t the easiest to keep organized.)

So, I made up a printable that I will get them to write their ideas onto, and we will put them all onto either keychain ring or something like that.  I have taken a picture of some empty cards put onto a ring to give you an idea of what I mean….

50+ Summer Bucket List Ideas
I will add the printable further down in the post for you to download.  All you have to do is print them onto some cardstock paper, and you will have your own set to use!  (*Just a little hint…try getting one of those single binder rings you can buy – they will be WAY easier to put these onto!  I have some somewhere in my craft cupboard, but can’t find them now when I need them!)

I have put together some summer bucket list ideas for you to use, or come up with your own!  That’s why I left the cards blank – if you want to use them, you can write on them yourself, or let your kids write on them.  Put things on that have to do with your family and plans you have for the summer.  Use as many as you want, and have a great summer making memories with your kids.  You will likely even be starting a tradition that your kids will continue even after they have their own kids!!

Here are some summer bucket list ideas for you to use:

  • Make a time capsule and bury it – Put things that mean something to you and your family, things that are happening in the world right now – anything fun you can think of!  Set a date of when you will dig it back up.
  • Camp out in the backyard – Set up a tent and just camp in your yard!
  • Rainy day campout/movie night in the living room – On a rainy day, set up some pillows and beds on the floor and watch movies all day and evening!
  • Water balloon fight or catch
  • Eat smores
  • Family bike ride
  • Nature scavenger hunt – Put together a list of nature items that kids can go out and find – pine cones, a red stone, bark from a tree…..
  • Get up early and watch the sunrise
  • Take the time to sit down and watch a sunset
  • Go on a picnic – Even if it is just to a local park or in your backyard!
  • Go star gazing – Find somewhere that you can see the stars really well, and lay a blanket down and watch the stars together.

Paint Rocks With Your Kids - Summer Bucket List

  • Paint some rocks
  • Set up a lemonade stand – You can even set it up to raise money for a local charity, like an animal shelter.
  • Play board games outside – Lay down a blanket and have a game day or night outside.
  • Build an obstacle course
  • Go see fireworks
  • See a parade
  • Go camping
  • Go to the beach or waterpark
  • Set up your own waterpark in your backyard and have a party – Lay some tarps down on the grass, turn on a sprinkler, set up some slides…anything you can think of!  Invite some friends over to enjoy the day.
  • Go for a drive
  • Join a summer reading program
  • Go to a summer matinee
  • Keep a summer journal – Write down some of the fun things you are doing throughout the summer.
  • Find “pictures” in the clouds – Lay on a blanket on a sunny day with white, fluffy clouds and see who can find pictures in what they see.
  • Write and mail a letter to someone special
  • Friends & family talent show – Gather some friends and family together and let them show off their special talents!
  • Mini golf
  • Build a sandcastle
  • Make a sun catcher – Get some colored tissue paper, cut out the center ring of a margarine container as well as the lip from the bottom.  Lay the tissue paper between some plastic wrap, then put it between the margarine lid and close it.  Hang it from a piece of string and you have a great sun catcher!
  • Collect sea shells or rocks
  • Have a puppet show – Make up your own story or use one you already know.  Spend a day making your puppets and practicing then put on a show!
  • Make outdoor mural out of chalk – Make a huge painting out of chalk down a sidewalk or concrete wall in your yard.
  • Interview an older family member about their lives – Write everything down about where they were born, what they did for fun, when they got married – everything you can think of that you don’t know about them.  You could even take the information and put it into a photo book with some pictures, and give it to them as a gift.
  • Have a bonfire
  • Play outside in the rain
  • Go on a hike
  • Minute to win it game night with friends and family – We have done this a few times – just Google minute to win it games and find some that are fun to do.  This is something that is equally fun for kids and adults!
  • Be a nature photographer – Go out and take a bunch of pictures of trees, flowers, animals and anything else you can find.  Put them together into a special album.
  • Put on a play
  • Three-legged races with friends
  • Create a fairy garden – Make some tiny openings in trees and flower gardens, add some tiny items to make furniture and create your very own fairy garden.
  • Play hopscotch
  • Make root beer or coke float
  • Have a pajama day
  • Write a book – You can even have it printed off at a print on demand site like Amazon.
  • Date night with mom or dad – Go out with just you and mom or dad, and have some fun!
  • Fly a kite
  • Play bean bag toss
  • Have a garage sale

Plant a sunflower circle fort - summer bucket list

  • Plant a sunflower ring fort – Take some seeds and make a circle with an opening to plant them.  Once they grow, they will be tall enough to create a little “secret fort” to sit in and read or relax.  (We just planted a couple in our yard last week, as you can see in the picture, so hopefully they will grow!)
  • Learn a new hobby – If you have always wanted to learn to knit, learn together with your kids!
  • Go for a boat ride
  • Spend a day at a playground
  • Build a fort – Try finding a bush to make a fort in, or if you don’t have any nearby, make some kind of fort in your backyard.  Use your imagination!

Here is the free printable you can use to make your own summer bucket list if you would like it!
